Udaipur Sight Seeing:

CITY PALACE AND MUSEUM - Towering over the Pichola Lake from a hill is lies imposing City Palace, a majestic marvel of architecture. Largest palace complex in Rajasthan, is a conglomeration of buildings constructed over a period of time by various Maharanas, the complex still has a uniformity of design. The palace has many pavilions, terraces, corridors, courtyards, rooms and hanging gardens. The upper terraces of the palace offer magnificent view of the lake and the city. The main part of the palace is now preserved as a museum. The beautiful mosaics of peacocks at Mor Chowk, the glass and mirror work in Manak Mahal and Moti Mahal, and a rare collection of miniatures in Krishna Vilas make it rare architectural feat.

JAGDISH TEMPLE - Built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1651, the temple is located north of the entrance to the City Palace. Built in Indo-Aryan style, the temple is the largest in Udaipur. A black stone image of Lord Vishnu, enshrined here as Jagannath, lord of the universe can also be seen here. A brass image of Garuda (Vishnu’s vehicle) lies in front of the temple.

SAHELIYON-KI-BARI - Saheliyon-Ki-Bari, a garden of the maids of honour, lies on the north of the city. This small ornamental garden displays delightful lotus pools, fountains, chiselled kiosks and marble elephants.

BHARTIYA LOK KALA MANDIR - This Indian folk arts museum displays some interesting exhibits including folk dresses, dolls, ornaments, puppets, masks, folk musical instruments, folk deities and paintings. The museum organizes daily puppet shows here.

PICHOLA LAKE - About 4 km in length and 3 km wide, the charming Pichhola Lake is fringed with gardens, havelis, hills, ghats and temples. The lake was enlarged by Maharana Udai Singh II. The two islands on the lake, Jag Niwas and Jag Mandir, present a magnificent sight. Boats leave regularly from the Bansi Ghat (City Palace jetty) and take you on a trip around the lake including Jag Mandir and other ghats around the lake.

PRATAP MEMORIAL - On the top of Moti Magri overseeing the Fateh Sagar Lake is the bronze statue of Maharana Pratap and his horse Chetak. Known as Pratap Smarak (memorial), the statue is in a well laid out garden. As per legend, Chetak jumped an gulf of extraordinary width in the battle of Haldighati thereby saving his master’s life.

FATEH SAGAR - This beautiful lake, constructed in 1678, is situated to the north of Lake Pichola. Built by Maharana Fateh Singh, is surrounded by numerous hills on three sides and the Pratap Memorial on the north. There is a pleasant driveway along east bank of the lake. In the centre of the lake is Nehru Park —a lovely island garden with a boat-shaped restaurant in it. The island is accessible only by boat.

UDAI SAGAR - The Udai Sagar Lake, lying 15 km east of Udaipur, was built Maharana Udai Singh to provide the city with secure water supply. The lake is 4 km long and 2.5 km wide and a maximum depth of around 9 metres. Today, it supplies water to the nearby zinc smelter.

AHAR MUSEUM - 3 km from Udaipur lies Ahar, the capital of the Sisodias. A small government museum displays rare collections of antiquities including iron objects, earthen pots and other artifacts excavated in the region. An impressive cluster of cenotaphs of the Maharanas of Mewar also that stand nearby.
